Medical Assistant, Certified functions as an integral member of
theinterdisciplinary healthcare team in providing dir ect patient
care. TheMedical Assistant, Certified performs routine admin
istrative and patientcare supportive duties in a Health System
medical p ractice that assistmedical and/or nursing staff in the
examination and t reatment ofpatients and ensure the clinic/office
runs smoothly. Work PerformedClinical responsibilities:The CMA
takes medica l histories and records vital signs, explainstreatment
procedures to pat ients, and prepares patients for examinationsand
procedures.Patient care support responsibilities may include
assisting the medicaland nursing s taff during examination and
procedures, collecting andpreparing laborato ry specimens,
performing basic laboratory test in theclinic/office, taki ng
electrocardiograms, removing sutures/ staples,changing sterile and
no n-sterile dressings, promoting patient/familyunderstanding of
the educat ional content and his/her involvement in theplan of
care, and documentin g in the patient record.Other clinical support
responsibilities include disposing ofcontaminated supplies,
instrument processing, high level dis infectionand sterilization of
medical instruments, telephoning prescript ions to apharmacy,
preparing and administering medications as directed b y aphysician,
and authorizing drug refills as directed. Performs othercl inical
functions as delegated and supervised by the physician.Administra
tive responsibilities:The CMA greets patients, answers telephones,
sched ules appointments toinclude arrive appointments in
MaestroCare, checkout patients, andreferral scheduling; arranges
for hospital admissions and laboratoryservices, updates and files
patient medical records, fills out insuranceforms, handles billing,
bookkeeping to include receiving copay s andcollections on account
balances; correspondence, and ordering clini caland clerical
supplies and forms. Performs other administrative duties
asdirected.May be requested to be a liaison for clinic activities
such as JointCommission and falls and/or participate in clinic
committees.Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesGood customer service s
kills.Work requires the ability to understand and follow oral and
writte ninstructions generally acquired through a high school
education andmedi cal assistant programming.Heavy lifting and the
ability to transport str etcher and wheelchairpatients may be
required.Working knowledge of steri le techniques and special
procedures that areapplicable to work performe d.Working knowledge
of procedures and techniques involved in administeri ngroutine and
special treatments to patients.Working knowledge of sanita tion,
personal hygiene and basic health andsafety precautions applicable
for work in a clinic setting. Workingknowledge of infection control
pro cedures and safety precautions.Age specific competencies.Daily

CharacteristicsN/A Minimum Qualifications Education Level I --
Graduation from accredited Medical Assistant program strongly
preferred. High school or GED graduation required. Level II --
Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited by the
Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs
(CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools
(ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation required.
Level III -- Graduation from a medical assistant program accredited
by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education
Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health Education
Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED graduation
required. Level IV -- Graduation from a medical assistant program
accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health
Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accrediting Bureau of Health
Education Schools (ABHES) strongly preferred. High school or GED
graduation required. Experience Level I -- No experience required.
Level II -- 1 year of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant,
Certified in a clinical setting. Level III -- 2 years of clinical
experience as a Medical Assistant, Certified in a clinical setting.
Level IV -- 3 years of clinical experience as a Medical Assistant,
Certified in a clinical setting. Note: 1 year of experience will be
provided for an Associate degree in Medical Assisting. General
Ladder Statement: In addition to the education and experience
noted, applicants must meet all requirements set forth in the
Medical Assistant, Certified (CMA/RMA) Ladder Program document for
Levels II, III, and IV. Degrees, Licensures, Certifications Level I
-- Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or ARMA required. BLS
required. Level II -- Certification by AAMA, AMT, NHA-CCMA, NCMA or
ARMA required. BLS required. Level III -- Certification by AAMA,
